The Sandpaper fig is found along riverbanks and in moist covered gullies along the East Coast of Australia from Mackay in the northern tropics of Queensland and as far as New South Wales to the south on the snowy mountain border with Victoria.

-The Sandpaper Fig, Ficus Coronata is native to Australia. It grows in riverbanks, by billabongs and in gullies. As punishment for that sin the males all unalive themselves. In this process of pollination of the fig by the wasps and the wasps reproduction carbon dioxide is produced in the fig which triggers it the flowers reproduction.. amazing symbiotic relationship… the fig also produces something which digests the now dead male wasps as nourishment The females then break open a small hole in the fig, make their escape and fly off to find another fig of the same species where she burrows in, loses her wings, lays her eggs and repeats the process…
