August 2 marked the beginning of the second decan of Leo, attributed to Thoth Tarot minor arcana card 6 of Wands – Victory.
The sixes are attributed to Tiphareth, in some respects the most important of all Sephiroth. It is the centre of the whole system.
It represents consciousness in its most harmonized and balanced form; definitely in form, not only in idea, as in the case of the number Two.
The Sixes are thus representative of their respective elements at their practical best.
The Six of Wands is called Victory. The outburst of energy in the Five of Wands, which was so sudden and violent that it even gave the idea of strife, has now completely won success.
This card represents Tiphareth of the suit of Fire. This shows Energy in completely balanced manifestation.
The reference is also to Jupiter and Leo, which seems to imply a benediction on the harmony and beauty of this arrangement.
Leo brings out to the full the frank, expansive, exuberant nature of Jupiter.
The native with Jupiter in Leo is sincere, generous and magnanimous, ambitious, fond of power, often with much of the dramatic in his makeup, and usually well fitted for success in public life.
When the 6 of Wands – Victory pops up in a reading:
Victory after strife; Love; pleasure gained by labour; carefulness, sociability and avoiding of strife, yet victory therein; also insolence, and pride of riches and success, etc. The whole dependent on the dignity
Tiphareth of Yod: Gain
Aleister Crowley claimed to have invented Churchill’s use of the “V for Victory” sign during World War II, as a magical reply to the Nazis’ use of the swastika. The symbolism of the “V for Victory” refers to the story of Isis, Apophis, and Osiris, as illustrated in the Lesser Ritual of the Hexagram, first published in The Equinox I.3.
